July 7 2010 - Today, over 100 of England’s top primary care respiratory healthcare specialists are meeting to discuss the way forward in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) management, a condition that kills more people every year in the UK than bowel, breast and prostate cancer. Discussions about the immediate changes needed to improve patient care are in light of the recently published updated National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) COPD guideline and anticipated National Strategy for COPD, expected to be made available later this year.

Tobacco Research Reveals The Packet Racket

The tobacco industry has side stepped laws banning advertising and promotion by skilfully marketing cigarettes to reel in smokers according to a new Cancer Research UK study* yesterday (Monday).

Between 2003 and 2005 the Tobacco Advertising and Promotions Act (TAPA) outlawed all tobacco advertising. Since then the tobacco industry has invested heavily in their packaging, with cleverly marketed new brand names, colours, sizes, shapes and materials to attract new smokers and help keep existing smokers from switching brands.
