Scholarships To Support Postgraduate Clinical Psychology Students, Australia

The Australian Psychological Society (APS), on behalf of the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing, is administering scholarships up to $15,000 per annum to students who will be applying to study or continuing to undertake an APAC-accredited Masters or Doctorate degrees in Clinical Psychology in 2010.

The Mental Health Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme (MHPSS) is an initiative aimed at supporting postgraduate students to meet their accommodation, living and travel costs while at university.

Australian Companies began human trials of Swine flu Vaccine

Two biotechnology companies in Australia have begun the first human trials of a vaccine for the 2009 H1N1 (swine flu) virus.

Adelaide-based Vaxine Pty Ltd and Melbourne-based CSL Biotherapies injected the first adult volunteers this week in separate trials starting days apart.

Now in its winter flu season, Australia has reported about 15,000 confirmed cases of the new H1N1 virus and 41 deaths. That has made Australian health officials and drug manufacturers anxious to get a vaccination program under way as soon as possible.

The number of swine-flu deaths in Australia has risen to 31, Health Minister Nicola Roxon said, while Singapore’s Ministry of Health reported its first fatality linked to the illness.

Swine flu research gets seven million boost from Australian government

SWINE FLU has triggered a mini stimulus in medical research with the Government announcing it will finance 41 research projects, among them the risks to children and why some people get flu more severely than others.

The results of the $7 million research campaign, expected by December, may come in time to combat swine flu in Australia.
