Nine year old girl from London dies of swine flu

A nine-year-old girl has become the fifth person with swine flu to die in the UK.

The child from south London had "serious underlying health problems", NHS London has said.

This is fifth fatality in UK.

Ninteen Year old dies in Lewisham hospital found to have swine flu

A 19-year-old man has died after contracting swine flu in London, health authorities in the capital have said.

The man, from south London, had serious underlying health problems and was in Lewisham Hospital. Tests undertaken after his death showed he had the flu.

Swine flu update: Government changes strategy from containment to outbreak management

Speaking this morning, Andy Burnham, the Health Secretary, and Sir Liam Donaldson, the Chief Medical Officer, said that there were hotspots where swabbing and lab confirmations of the virus now put an unjustifiable strain on time and resources. These areas, including the West Midlands and London, are now shifting from the containment phase, which is led by the Health Protection Agency, to outbreak management, led by the strategic health authorities and local health trusts.
