First swine flu related death in Spain

A 20-year-old Moroccan woman infected with swine flu has died in Madrid. She had pre existing asthma and died of respiratory illness caused by flu. She was seven months pregnant and had emergency caesarian section.

Latest figures by WHO released on monday show that there are 70,893 recorded cases with 311 deaths. Approximately 717 people have been infected with the H1N1 virus in Spain.

The other three recorded fatalities in the EU have occurred in the UK bringing total swine flu deaths to four in EU.

Novavax's VLP Technology is selected by spanish government for Comprehensive Flu Vaccine Solution in Spain

ROCKVILLE, Md., June 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Novavax, Inc. (NASDAQ: NVAX) announced today its initial agreement to license its proprietary, recombinant virus-like-particle (VLP) vaccine technology to ROVI Pharmaceuticals (Madrid: ROVI) of Spain. ROVI will use the VLP technology to create a comprehensive influenza vaccine solution for the Spanish government under a new 60 million-euro program sponsored and led by the Spanish Ministry of Health and other government groups to develop pandemic and seasonal flu vaccines and establish its only in-border facility.
