Priory Group Leads on Expert Forensic Mental Health Conference

March 2, 2010 by SallyPreston

Priory Group, the UK’s leading provider of independent mental health care, is bringing health experts together for a unique conference, which provides an insight into the field of forensic mental healthcare.

Forensic mental health services allow appropriate and effective treatment of extremely vulnerable people whose behaviours present a risk to themselves as well as others.

The conference, which takes place on Friday 14th May at London’s Royal Society of Medicine, will cover the central issue of improving quality across forensic services. Particular attention will be given towards the impact of New Horizons, the Bradley Report, research priorities, recovery and gender issues.

Guest speakers for event include the Sean Duggan Joint CEO Sainsbury Centre for Mental Health, Dr Adrian Worrall Centre for Quality Improvement, Dr David Reiss West London Mental Health Trust, and Dr Quazi Haque Priory Group and Institute of Psychiatry.

The conference aims to provide all healthcare professionals who have links to the area of forensic mental health with knowledge surrounding current developments in the field.

Service users and other individuals who want to learn more about this important area of healthcare can also attend.

All proceeds from the conference will be donated to charity partners; the Sainsbury Centre for Mental Health and the Mental Health Foundation.

Dr Quazi Haque said: “There are important challenges ahead for all providers in offering high quality, effective services across the mental health and criminal justice landscape.

“Priory Group provides secure services across the country and has a number of experts who are experienced in the forensic care field who will be taking part in the conference.

“The aim of the event is to raise awareness of key issues surrounding mental health care and the criminal justice system, with guest speakers from a variety of disciplines.

“We have had a great deal of interest in the conference so far from healthcare professionals who work in a number of different areas.

“We hope that people find the conference interesting and that it supports the fantastic work that is taking place across the country.”

The cost of the conference is £75 per delegate, bookings can be made online at www.priorygroup.com or by calling 01372 860 326.
